THE BOARD OF VALUERS, APPRAISERS AND ESTATE AGENTS MALAYSIA
In Malaysia, all practicing estate agents must be approved
and registered with the Board of Valuers, Appraisers and Estate Agents.
Currently there are approximately 2,000 estate agents registered with the
board.
Overview
The Board of Valuers, Appraisers and Estate Agents Malaysia
was set up in 1981 under the purview of the Ministry of Finance, Malaysia. The
setup and operation of this Board is governed by the provision of Valuers,
Appraisers and Estate Agents Act 1981. Its primary function is to regulate the
Valuers, Appraisers and Estate Agents practicing in Malaysia.
Functions
1. To keep
and maintain the Register of the following:-
- Valuers
- Appraisers
- Estate Agents
- Probationary Valuers
- Probationary Estate Agents
- Firms of Valuers, Appraisers and Estate Agents.
2. To
approve and reject applications for registration.
3. To hold
disciplinary proceedings.
4. To
conduct examinations.
5. To
prescribe Scale of Fees.
6. To
regulate the professional Conduct/Ethics of Valuers, Appraisers and Estate
Agents.
7. To award
scholarships
As a regulator body, the board helps ensure that the
profession adheres to a general code of conduct and ethics to protect the
interest of property buyers.
